The Menière Paris Flap Bag — Designed to Last a Lifetime
When we designed the Menière Paris flap bag, we made a single commitment: that every decision would be driven by longevity, not by trend. This is what that commitment looks like in practice.
The flap bag is one of the oldest and most enduring silhouettes in leather goods. Its proportions have barely changed in a century — because they were right from the beginning. What changes, from one maker to another, is everything underneath the silhouette: the leather, the hardware, the stitching, the interior.
The leather
Every Menière Paris bag is made from full-grain French leather — selected for texture, consistency, and its potential to develop a beautiful patina over years of use. We do not use top-grain leather, corrected-grain leather, or any leather that has been sanded or buffed to remove natural imperfections. Those imperfections are part of what makes the leather alive.
The hide is cut by hand, following the grain to ensure that the tightest, most consistent leather goes to the areas of highest stress — the flap, the handle, the strap attachment points.
The pine cone hallmark
At the centre of every Menière Paris flap bag is the pine cone hallmark — cast in solid brass and gold-plated. It is not decorative. It is functional: it opens and closes the flap, engaging with a precise click that becomes more satisfying with use as the mechanism settles. It is also the mark of a goldsmith who registered it in Paris in 1775.
"The hallmark opens thousands of times over the life of a bag. It was designed to feel better at ten thousand than it does at one."
The stitching
Every seam on a Menière Paris bag is hand-stitched using a waxed linen thread. Two needles pass in opposite directions through each pre-punched hole, creating a lock stitch that cannot unravel even if a single thread breaks. Machine stitching, by contrast, can unravel from a single point of failure.

The specifications
Leather : Full-grain French leather
Hardware : Solid brass, gold-plated
Stitching : Hand-stitched, waxed linen thread
Lining : Suede leather interior
Strap : Adjustable, removable, full-grain leather

The interior
The interior of the Menière Paris flap bag is lined in suede leather — not fabric, not synthetic. A suede lining protects the contents, does not snag, and ages gracefully rather than wearing through. The interior pocket is stitched with the same care as the exterior, and fitted to hold a phone securely without the bag distorting.
Why every detail was chosen for the decade ahead
A bag designed to last fifteen years cannot be designed the way most bags are — by choosing the most attractive option at each decision point. It must be designed by choosing the most durable option, then refining it until it is also the most beautiful one. That is the process behind every Menière Paris bag. Not the reverse.
